Basic Blackjack Strategy

Beating the weddenschappen casino at the blackjack table is tough, but if you follow some simple rules you can improve your chances of success.

The best way to gain an advantage at the blackjack table is to use one of the many betting tables available in an online casino. These handy charts tell you the best betting option based on the value of your cards and that of the dealer. When you first look at a blackjack strategy chart you’ll see a section for your hand (usually the vertical axis) and a section for the dealer’s hand (usually the horizontal axis).

Your hand is split into three categories: paired totals, soft totals (starting hands which contain an ace which can either be used as a value of one or eleven) and hard totals. Once you’ve been dealt a hand you simply match it with the section on the chart, then you look across until you find the point where it meets with the dealer’s up card.

For example, if you are dealt hard 15 and the dealer has a 6 showing as their face card, the table will suggest standing. In contrast, if you’re dealt soft 12 and the blackjack dealer is showing a 9 as their face card, then you should hit.

Using a blackjack strategy chart is perfectly legal and you can even use it while sitting inside a casino at the table. While many casinos may not like you having this in front of you, they are generally powerless to stop you from using it as it isn’t cheating.

It’s important to remember, however, that this chart doesn’t guarantee you success. Moreover, you don’t have to accept the action that it suggests. Each table is based on the best mathematical move you can make given two variables (your hand and the dealer’s). It doesn’t, however, take into account the amount you’ve wagered, the number of players at the table, whether or not you’ve lost or won in the previous hand, or your general feeling at the time.

Thus, while it can be profitable to use a blackjack betting chart, it’s important to remember that it won’t necessarily earn you thousands of dollars.
